Head of Digital Workplace and Transformation - Nationwide Building Society, 2015 - 2017

Responsible for writing and delivering the strategy that transformed Nationwide’s physical workspaces, end-user and Digital technology, and Branch IT. During the 2-year structured change programme, I Integrated customer channels, moved Nationwide to cloud based technology solutions, created an integrated intelligent building platform, and rolled out Dynamic Working alongside digital literacy programmes.    

The role included responsibility for BAU property and FM, and as part of this I built a new London HQ and refitted much of the estate, taking the opportunity to dramatically increase the variety of workspaces and imbed new technology. This complemented my initiative to move to mobile devices and web based interfaces for both employees and branch interaction.  

Director Flexible and Digital Working Services: BT 2009 - 2015

Dual global remit delivering service internally, and to external customers. Internally, I owned BT’s strategy around, and operational control of, mobile devices, agile working, and IoT. My external facing remit gave me ownership of a significant global business unit, with revenues of more than £100m p.a. and responsibility for sales, hardware and devices, software development, service, and channels. I developed and realised a coherent portfolio of transformational technology and change solutions centred around the theme of "new ways of working". This included Flexible Working and change consultancy, Intelligent Buildings, remote access, managed mobile platforms, Enterprise Broadband, learning solutions, digital channels, and BT's Internet of Things proposition.  

During this time, I led programmes and grew strong customer relationships in sectors as diverse as Finance, Defence, FMCG, Pharma, and Technology, and accepted several CIO level secondments.  

Head of Workstyle Solutions - BT Retail, 2006 - 2009

Workstyle was a monetised version of the transformation that I took BT through in my previous role, and began with a business case I developed and took to the CEO of BT Retail. The Workstyle managed service offered a heavy consultancy element based on internally developed intellectual capital combined with specifically developed applications, and a broad supply chain. It rested on a very efficient contact centre and service structure. Workstyle was built from first principles, operating as a stand-alone business within BT, and depended on the enthusiasm of a small, very diverse, team.    

It grew into a highly profitable revenue stream, going from 1 to 40 major contracts within 18 months, and delivering more than £20m p.a. of direct revenue. The real value that Workstyle offered BT was the pull-through however, and the service acted as an order point for around £250m p.a. of standard product.  

Head of Group Programmes and Solutions - BT Group, 2001 - 2006

Owned, delivered, and ran BT's global Property, IT, and Flexible Working strategy across 22 countries, 200 major admin properties and 12000 operational buildings. Spearheaded fundamental property, technology, and cultural change.   I created an internal account management function facing onto business units, a function to support external sales with group capabilities, and an ongoing focus on energy management and sustainability. 

I also initiated and delivered the Workstyle programme, an ongoing focus on changing the working practices of 70,000 people through new technology, workspace, and culture. This programme saved BT £540m in property per annum, decreased absenteeism by 63% and improved people productivity across the business by an average of 20%.
