Selected Achievements

Digital Workplace

Bringing together technology, property, and behaviours to empower employees and support customers.

  • Created, drove and delivered a strategy and subsequent transformation programme that moved Nationwide Building Society to an open, dynamic workplace with the ability to work on the move, collaborate more effectively, and benefit from cloud based technology. Introduced new Unified Communications, Mobile and Enterprise Social platforms, new environments, and new working practices.
  • Owned BT’s successful programme to transform its property estate, introduce dynamic working, and implement collaborative communications technologies. This resulted in savings of £540m p.a.  derived from new property and IT solutions in over 120 premises in 22 countries, and a tangible shift in company culture. With a £125m budget this programme made a dramatic and positive change to 70,000 employees.

Business Transformation

Guiding organisations through complex change and delivering business benefit.

  • In first year of ownership of the Enterprise Broadband P&L, increased revenue by 50% against a 10% target and sustainably improved margin from 28% to 42% through automation, service re-organisation, staff refocussing and tight supplier management.
  • Delivered complex transformational outcomes for a broad range of organisations including: technology and property rationalisation for a major UK police force; systems and process improvement programme for a bank in Asia; and a process change programme that saved a global pharmaceutical from having to split its research facilities. Also supported smaller organisations, for example a 200 employee legal firm.
  • Defined and built new collaboration spaces, Agile areas, Hubs and divisional offices for a large financial institution across three continents that helped break the cycle of expensive office refurbishment and fit-out in favour of easier to support and more intensively used centrally owned facilities. Rolled these spaces out with user training, behavioural guidance and support processes.
  • Re-engineered four service desks into one, more efficient, multi-skilled operations centre, using bespoke tools to augment upskilling and people change. At the same time, reduced number of implementation visits, through supplier process improvements and remote build, improving margins by 20%.

Culture Change & Dynamic Working

Introducing new ways of working and improving the adoption and use of technology and property change.

  • Led and introduced a complex programme supporting the MoD to be more agile. Behavioural change was key to effective home and mobile working, alongside the success of new knowledge sharing processes, in this highly security conscious environment.
  • Introduced a workstyle programme into a large Local Authority that allowed the closure of 30% of its admin estate and reduced absenteeism by 55%. It also introduced a universally adopted objective based management methodology. Did this without any changes to the underlying technology as a pure behaviour change initiative.
  • Frequently consulted as an expert in culture change. For example, addressed over 3000 South Korean senior managers and government officials using simultaneous translation, sharing the stage with the UK ambassador. I have also judged WorkingMums employer of the year for the last 5 years.

Creating strong teams, enhancing brand image and engaging stakeholders.

  • Built a high performing team from first principles that developed the Workstyle product set, created supplier agreements, built the service and delivery infrastructure, collateral, sales channels, user training, break/fix and application development. All the initial team took a personal risk in joining me in a leap of faith. Motivated, coached, and grew this team into a successful business unit.
  • Led global, complex, teams mixing direct, matrix and supplier management to achieve results. Built successful teams representing multiple silos and levels of seniority inside and outside of the organisation.
